Meet Dr Shakira Dawood

Qualifications: MBChB (Stell), DipPec (SA), FCP (SA), Mmed

Dr Shakira Dawood is a Specialist Physician qualified at Groote Schuur Hospital with extensive experience in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and critical care, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her clinical interests focus on smoking-related conditions such as COPD and emphysema, chronic lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, and the management of infectious diseases like TB and HIV.

As co-head Supervisor at Melomed Hospital’s Trauma Unit, Dr Dawood gained considerable expertise in patient management, clinical leadership, and healthcare operations. Her professional development includes diplomas in Emergency Medicine (DipPEC) and HIV management and additional courses from Harvard University and UCT in quality healthcare, dermatology, and clinical research.

Dr Dawood’s academic accomplishments include published research on Hodgkin’s lymphoma outcomes and international presentations at the McMaster International Review Course in Internal Medicine (MIRCIM). Passionate about continuous learning, she balances clinical excellence with approachable patient care.

Outside her professional commitments, Dr Dawood enjoys a fulfilling family life as a wife and mother of two girls.
